Democrats and Republicans are wrangling over the, yet to be passed, economic stimulus plan. Aid for Medicaid, jobs for youths and measures for housing and mortgages are things that Democrats want added to the bill. Republicans are saying that the bill is being loaded with “pork”. The House is ready to advance the bill as is but many Senate Democrats want to also include extended unemployment benefits. Democrats feel that the bill is a good first step but is not complete. In a rebuttal Republicans are claiming that Senate Democrats are being irresponsible by not passing the bill as is. I’m not too sure that this package is indeed going to be a stimulus to our economy and a number of economists agree that there are more important ways to stimulate the economy without doling out small rebates to certain taxpayers..

Help with taxes is not enough to solve the many problems that working families are facing, among them high heating costs and skyrocketing food prices. It seems to me that Bush is really pressuring the House and Senate to get this bill passed.
