Dick Cheney has resisted routine oversite of the way his office handles classified information. This has been going on for four years. The Information Security Oversight Office, which oversees classification and declassication, is a unit in the National Archives and objected to the situation. Cheney’s office suggested abolishing the oversight unit. Too much is being hidden from the American public by this adminstration. The National Archives is an executive branch department and is headed by a presidential appointee. Cheney claims that he is not part of the executive branch so he doesn’t have to comply.

Cheney’s need for secrecy has been a feature of the Bush administration. In 2001, he fought to keep confidential the identities of the energy industry officials who advised his task force on a national energy policy. In my opinion, this guy is just a crook who leads Bush around by the nose. Look at his ties with Halaburton, a company that got billions in contracts in Iraq with no bids.
