Friday night, the small town of Greensburg, Kansas was flattened by a massive tornado. The Governor of Kansas complemented the help of their National Guard but said that a lot of their work was hampered by the fact the so much of their equipment was in Iraq. They could not borrow anything from neighboring states as they were in the same boat. Why should people in our country suffer because very necessary equipment, needed for disasters here at home, is in Iraq. The tornado season is not over.
The hurricane season is almost upon us, what happens then? Some of levee repairs made by the Army Corps of Engineers after Hurricane Katrina are already showing signs of serious flaws. It’s far past the time to get our troops out of Iraq and think about the needs we have here at home for more peaceful uses of our National Guard. Mr. President, put your priorities in the right place. Bring the troops and their equipment home…Joan Lough
