After the electrocutions of several United States service members, the Pentagon is just getting around to ordering electrical inspections of buildings in Iraq maintained by KBR, a military biggie. The Pentagon has dropped the ball in so many areas that it’s hard to keep track. Gen. David H. Petraeus disclosed that 13 Americans had been electrocuted in Iraq since the beginning of the war and numerous others have received painful shocks. These inspections should have taken place after the first death, not 12 deaths later. Just another example of how the priorities of this misbegotten war are in the wrong place.

It has been acknowledged that as early as 2004, Army experts warned of poor poor electrical work being done by contractors was creating dangerous conditions for American soldiers. Who ignored those warnings? KBR and other contractors have been paid millions of dollars to repair and upgrade troop housing in older buildings. Who oversees these yahoos? What is the Pentagon doing to see that this never happens again?
