If I could think of something good to say about John McCain, I’m not sure that I could utter it because I’m so turned off by Sarah Palin. The more we hear from her, the more of a twit she appears to be. I’m getting tired of McCain and his war record. A lot of military suffered as he did in prison camps during another war that never should have been. America seems to be run by the Pentagon and all they know about is war. Where are the thoughtful people who believe that war is not the answer to everything? I saw McCain on “This week With George Stephanopoulos” yesterday and while he railed about the pork in bills submitted to Congress and cutting costs he made no mention of the costs of the wars and the pork and special interest groups that get government war contracts. I see an America whose main industry is war and war spending is over the top and outrageous.

I’d like to throw in my two cents about the economy crisis. I make no claims about knowing finance at the Wall Street level but I know plenty about the Main Street level. As I struggle to live on a retirement fixed income I look back at how we raised six children during the 50’s. We had a budget with three categories, wants, needs and musts and no credit cards. It had no room for a “have to have” mentality. I believe that we, as Americans, must do our part and tighten the belt in our lives for whomever is our next president or we will fail to achieve change. We must tread lightly on this failing planet. Part of the economy problem is due to a “credit card will solve everything” mentality and many are paying for their excesses now. Living beyond ones means may have to do with the large numbers of foreclosures. Having lived thru the “great depression” I have confidence on the resilience of my fellow Americans. We pulled our country up by it’s bootstraps in the 30’s and we can do it again during the current crisis. In my opinion the great bailout is to benefit the rich not “Main Street.” This can be one last fear scam by the republican administration to protect the very top level of our society.
