Well he’s done it again. Bush has no problem putting forth bills that require billions of dollars for war but can’t allow a bill for children’s health care to pass. His battle with Congressional Democrats is over spending. Go figure! It was the seventh veto of Mr. Bush’s presidency and the second veto of a children’s health bill. That’s a Scrooge in my book. In light of a veto, leaders of both parties hope to pass a one-year extension of Schip, a State Children’s Health Insurance Program. They want to include enough money in the measure to maintain current levels of enrollment. Democrats denounced the decision to veto. Bush likened the bill a move toward socialized medicine. God forbid that we go toward socialized medicine to see that all people in this rich country get medical care.
What a shame that even after weeks to reconsider, the president is unwilling to give low-income, uninsured American children the health care they need. It seems that Bush will please fiscal conservatives by vetoing an expansion of the program. Democrats feel that Republicans will suffer at the polls because of their stance.
