Just when I thought that things couldn’t get any worse in the Bush administration, it did. In addition to White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers, facing contempt of Congress, US Attorney General Alberto Gonzles is facing a possible perjury investigation. Mr Gonzales is accused of providing “at a minimum half-truths and misleading statements” when he appeared this week before the Senate Judiciary Committee. There’s more, subpoenas have been issued to Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff, and J. Scott Jennings, deputy director of the White House Office of Political Affairs, to testify about what role they had, or their knowledge of, the firings of nine U.S. attorneys last year.

Of course Bush will clain executive privilege for not allowing his aides to appear. He’s beginning to sound like a broken record with this claim and his claim that al-Qaeda is the major problem in Iraq. As a patriot, it’s not a good feeling to be ashamed of the people running our country. I can’t but wonder what’s next.
