Republican Sen. Dick Lugar, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, in a report on the House floor,
called for “downsizing and redeployment of United States military forces.” His expressing his feelings about how the “surge” is going, was followed by Republican Sen. George Voinovich voicing the same opinion. Sen. Lugar does, at this time, not want a timetable for troop removal but to allow the president to move forward on redeployment. Sen. Lugar is a highly respected senator and his opinion is a wedge for other Republicans to follow suit. Let’s hope that this is a crack in the dam that will break open and lead to getting our combat troops out of harms way sooner than September. I’m not counting on things moving much before September but it’s, at least, a step in the right direction…Joan Lough
