I was true to my word and did not watch one minute of the Republican Convention. I really didn’t have to, as the media told all. It’s very interesting to watch the different slants that reporters come up with. Having seen photos of McCain and Palin together, to my mind they are the “odd couple”, and I guess that they really are a pair of mavericks. Is this the pairing that we want to lead our country? I really have to bite my tongue to keep from saying what I think about Palin other than I consider her a loose canon. If the republicans were dumb enough to keep Bush for eight years then they are also dumb enough to welcome Palin with open arms. She seems to be the Annie Oakley of Alaska. The NRA must love her as do the pro-lifers. Are we a country who will let a leader force us to follow their religious convictions because that is what we’ll get if the republicans get in power again.

Alone, McCain didn’t seem so old but next to Palin he seems to have aged overnight. I can’t help but wonder what made him choose someone who seems so out of touch with world affairs. In my opinion being governor of Alaska is not enough experience to step into vice-president shoes. I see Alaska as the “boondocks.” Sorry Alaskans! The “first dude” might do very well running a sled and dogs across Alaska but in the White House, come on now! McCain has been talking about reform for 26 years in Washington but has not led any reform movements. As a matter of fact G.O.P. corruption and governmental dysfunction grew. The POW hero who put his country first seems to have disappeared when he picked Gov. Palin to be his running mate. A lot of holes are appearing in the scripted biography of Gov. Palin supplied by McCain .

Looking at McCain, his decision-making process is impetuous and like Bush, he goes with gut level instinct over facts. Let’s face it, he’s downright reckless. I think that his vetting process was sloppy and done too hastily. Let the debates begin. I can’t wait to see how they both hold up under pointed questions as to exactly what they plan to do to lessen the many problems facing the next administration.
