My oh my, where to begin? I guess I’ll use things that stand out to me. Let’s start with the ill planned privatization of Medicare which fell thru, thank goodness. That was followed by the Medicare Drug Plan which does not help much for people with chronic ills, requiring continuing medication. Medicare is not allowed to bid for lower drug prices, a boost for big Pharmaceutical companies. So much for we oldies.
Lets move on to the unprovoked Iraq war with the rising death toll of both military and Iraqi civilians. In my opinion, this war has escalated terrorism around the world and it’s getting worse. With mention of the war, I guess that I should comment on the cost of this fiasco. The weekly costs are staggering. I’ve said in the past, that politicians on both sides of the aisle should refuse to continue funding this war. I don’t want to leave our brave military in the lurch but if Bush found himself standing alone with his desire to win at all costs, maybe he would be forced to really change direction. As Commander-in-Chief he makes the rules and he couldn’t be stubborn enough or dumb enough to go forward alone, well maybe he could.
Now about immigration. Mr. Bush’s consertative base has refused to go along with his immigration bill. It may be a total failure. Since I mentioned consertatives, look at the Supreme Court. This court of his, is overturning bills that were passed by the prior court. I think that we’re heading back to the dark ages. Remember that the new judges are young and will be with us for a long, long time. Some legacy so far! How much more damage can he do before the next election?…Joan Lough
