Last night’s 60 Minutes interview with John McCain really made me angry. I had to restrain myself from putting my foot thru the TV. McCain is trying to make American’s believe that the surge is showing success. Ten servicemen were killed over the Easter weekend. Does that sound like the surge is successful? His hokey walk thru the Baghdad market, to prove how safe it was, was a joke. There he was, flanked by many armed troops, followed by several Humvees and with helicopters flying overhead. Sure, he was safe at that time but shopkeepers said that there is a worry for the people who live and work there, because of very active snipers. Now troops are leaving the relative safety of living on a base and moving into private homes in Baghdad as part of this new plan. Of course, I wish them success. If it works I will applaud the plan but I hate to be a pessimist. How will success be defined? I feel that we will never win this war that isn’t ours.
As we squeeze Baghdad, there are more and more attacks in towns surrounding the capital. Losing is not something that the military higher ups like to consider. Will any of them say “enough is enough, we’re losing too many of our military personnel, let’s find a way to get out It seems not, with Bush pulling the strings. Woe is me! With the kind of war news that I read, it seems that I won’t run out of fuel for my blogs…Joan Lough
