I’m having a ball reading all the comments both pro and con and watching on the TV,which continue after Bush’s State of the Union Address. It really opens ones eyes being able to get many points of views on our commander-in-chief’s speech Monday night. I’m a people person and it was fun to watch the people who were attending the address. The applause and standing up of the republicans during certain points and the sour puss expressions on many democrats faces gave me a lot of information even if I wasn’t listening to the same old tactics from the previous State of the Union Addresses.

Bush’s promise to veto the stimulus package if the Senate tries to add to it has me wondering if the Senate will cave in like the House democrats did. As I mentioned in my last blog the war and the economy are topics which are helping divert attention as Bush slips in little bills which will help big business and possibly lead to the demise of the polar bear. Sure enough the war and the economy were stressed in the State of the Union Address. The war seemed to be the big issue and he seemed to skirt too much emphasis on the economy. Heaven forbid if anyone utter the word “recession”. I guess it depends who one asks, if people feel that we are already sliding into a recession.

Bush patted himself on the back for the “success of the surge” and said that 20,000 troops will come home. 30,000 went in and as no mention of a timetable for additional withdrawals was mentioned it seems like he is preparing us for a long-term stay in Iraq. We need to get out in an honorable way for both our military and the Iraqi people, but we need to get out. He also used the threat of his veto power to stop actions that he opposes. He also asked that legislation allowing eavesdropping to continue and to allow immunity for phone companies who help wiretap plus asked for his tax cuts to be made permanent. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what will go on in the Senate. The House, in my opinion, has no guts to stand up for their beliefs.
