Bush has his heels dug in and that’s it. We’re right where we were at the beginning, we support the president’s policy, we support Gen. David Petraeus’ mission and we support the efforts of our troops, like it or not. I fear that as bleak as the outlook of the “surge” looks Petraeus may tell the administration what it wants to hear. Until that report in Sept. our troops and Iraqi civilians will continue to die and for one month of that time the Iraqi government will be on vacation. It just doesn’t seem to make any sense to me.
Families of military members in Iraq and Afghanistan are beginning to doubt their initial support of this war. Here is a quote from a mother, “I voted for Bush twice. I backed this war from the beginning, but I don’t think I can look my kids in the eyes anymore, if my husband comes home in a wooden box, and tell them he died for a good reason.”
- BETH PYRITZ, whose husband, an Army specialist, is on his third tour in Iraq.
This is only one of many, many testimonials from military families. The president just doesn’t care what we Americans think about this war, but blindly goes forward as stubborn as a jackass…Joan Lough
