Daily events in Iraq seem to go against the Bush administration’s claims that the surge is working. While Baghdad has seen an improvement, only because of added troops there, things have grown worse in other cities. It’s not al-Qaeda that’s the problem, it’s Sunni Arab extremists that are killing police chiefs, police officers, other Interior Ministry officials and tribal leaders throughout Iraq. That is the result of the Civil war going on there which is not our problem to fix. Almost every day in Iraq brings a few roadside bombings and shootings. Shiite-dominated government officials are the targets of the Sunni insurgents.

Mr. President where is the security that the surge has promised? How can we believe the reports that Petraeus and Crocker gave Congress. Why do you allow the carnage to continue? It’s in your hands as is the blood of our courageous military.
