Several republicians are retiring or choosing not to run. Hmm, sounds like the tide is turning for the administration. If the vacant seats are replaced with democrats, we could finally see some change in the right direction. I also just heard, via my local news station, that Tony Snow, Bush’s press honcho is stepping down, but I’m sure that his leavng is due to ill health. Why do the others seem, to me, to be fleeing? How many are actually leaving “to spend more time with my family”? I’ve heard that phrase a lot recently. There are a lot of tight races coming up and the republicians need 16 seats to win back the House. Money may also be a factor as the republicians are lagging behind the democrats when it comes to cash on hand.
Three Republican Reps. one from California, one from Arizona and one from Aalaska, face serious legal concerns that could influence their reelection decisions. Another from Florida is still under investigation from the Jack Abramoff scandal. Only two Democrats have announced their retirement, and both represent fairly safe seats. I’ll take an optimistic stance and say things are looking up.
