In my opinion, the Olympic games were a success both for the great athletes from around the world and the wonderful coverage given by NBC. I was was glued to the TV for as many hours that I could. Another factor in the success of the games was the view that it gave the world of China. There was a little undercurrent there, revealing the rigid government under which the Chinese live. Communism is able to control the masses of people in China. We, living in a Democratic society need to be thankful for what freedoms that we have here in the U.S. There was a subtle or maybe not so subtle control of the tourists and journalists during the Olympics. There was a special area set aside for people to protest once they got a permit. I learned that just applying for a protest permit allowed Chinese police to whisk them off to jail just for applying for a permit. That’s real control over the actions of people in China.
Now that the Olympic fun and games are over, it’s time for the fun and games of politics, with the conventions starting today as the Democrats meet in Denver. It won’t be too long before I retire my “shuckbush.com” blog and pick up with a new blog of social commentary. I’m sure that I’ll keep my tongue sharp and write about the human condition under a new administration and how world events affect our life in the U.S.
