The Olympic arena has taken my mind off the political arena somewhat. Watching wonderful athletes from all over the world is like a breath of fresh air. I can use that expression with tongue in cheek because I am in the U.S. and not in smog laden Beijing. I can feel China’s need to look good to the world. The Chinese government has strict rules for the behavior of it’s citizens in Beijing with everyone trying to put their best foot forward. I was a little dismayed to learn that a cute little girl singing for all the world to see was lip-syncing because the little girl actually singing was not “cute” enough to represent China. That little deception leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The continued peeping into the John Edwards affair also leaves a bad taste in my mouth. People sure are titillated. hearing about other peoples bedroom antics. The brief (I hope) war in Georgia with the Russians also leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To me Russia comes off as a big bully. With all this bad taste that I’m getting, I feel the need to buy mouthwash. All kidding aside, I can’t fathom how Georgia thought it could stand up to the military might of Russia. I don’t think that the situation has truly ended. The next move by Russia may well be to redraw boundaries, swallowing up parts of Georgia. Time will tell. Russia has picked the right time to start aggression as all the U.S. can do is use diplomatic action with our military strained to it’s limits in two wars. Why we would want to jump in with military assistance anyway, is beyond my comprehension. We are not the world’s saviors, contrary to the Bush administrations beliefs about itself.

I still have a few more days to stay glued to my TV watching the events in Beijing, unusual for me, as it’s usually my computer to which I am glued. Politics in general, seem to be taking a back seat to the Olympics, a welcome change for me. I try to avoid the sniping TV political ads anyway.
