President Bush has lifted the moratorium on offshore drilling which has been in place for 18 years. He is urging Congress to do the same so drilling can begin. It will take 7 to 10 years before that oil can be put to use. Why not use that time to work toward weaning us off our dependence on oil? The major oil companies have rights to explore in many areas where they are not exploring. Why do they need to attack a nature preserve in Alaska and more offshore areas for oil?

This sounds like a ploy by the Bush administration to accuse the democrats for not going along with their decisions to supposedly take the stress off our use of foreign oil by drilling in protected waters. That sounds like a lot of bull to me. I sure hope that Congress doesn’t sacrifice long-term environmental protections for short-term political gain.
