Even though the Supreme Court passed a ruling that states can demand photo ID in order to vote, Republicans and Democrats are taking opposing views on its enforcement. It was recommended that Congress establish free standardized photo IDs for all voters to help ensure the integrity of elections. I have nothing against such a ruling. I would go even further and ask for a national ID law. In this day and age I see nothing “big brother” about such a law but rather see it as a way to put an end to the illegal alien problem and an end partisan wrangling on immigration and other national problems. It would also be a necessary security method to combat terrorists and would make it more difficult for foreign terrorists to hide in the United States.

Concerns about voter fraud could be moot point with a national ID system. The poor and homeless, who now find it difficult to obtain reliable IDs, could get better services. We need to insist that our elected representatives put partisan politics aside and do what’s right for the nation.
