10 August 2007

We all heard a lot about the Iraqis taking the month of August off leaving many important issues on the table until their return. Well, our Congress has done the same thing, skipped town leaving important bills unsigned. Two major issues were runaway federal spending and Iraq. It failed to pass on twelve appropriations bills needed to fund the government for the new fiscal year which begins on Oct. 1.

This is what I call the pot calling the kettle black. It’s OK if we do it but awful if the Iraqis do the same thing. We’re dealing with people who talk out of both sides of their mouth. When summer recess is over, Democrats will give Bush what he wants and in return will receive spending on children’s health care and other domestic spending which will include infrastructure repair all of which will hit the public’s pocketbook with a vengeance.

The democrats elected in ’06 to make “change” have been pretty lily livered in confronting Bush and hanging on. Bush uses his typical “fear” tactics and they cave in. Shame on you Congressional Democrats! When General Petraeus gives his Sept. report, he knows which side his bread is buttered on and will report that the “surge” has made progress and it’s no time for Congress to pull out the funding rug. The majority of Congress will then be caught by General Petraeus’ implied promise that just a few more months of war will mean something new in Iraq. Congress, don’t fall for it and vote for the return of our troops.
