A majority of Iraq’s parliament signed a petition for a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq as soon as the Iraqi sercurity forces are strong enough. The document is now being developed into a draft bill. How much longer it will take for the forces to be strong enough is a moot question. Top US commanders say that corruption in the Iraqi government is hindering the buildup of of the Iraqi security forces.

The surge in Baghdad has driven insurgents to other cities and in Diyala Provence the Major General in charge of the Provence says that he needs thousands of more troops to put down the insurents. This whole situation seems to be going around in circles and our troops are paying the price. September is a long way off to have to wait to see if the surge is working. Doesn’t look like it is.
