The Iraqi parliament, in the center of the green zone, was attacked yesterday. As the US is wondering how bombers passed thru security points, it seems to me that there are vipers in the nest. Two Iraqi lawmakers were among the eight killed. Iraqi police. Army and security are filled with Iraqis more and more dissatisfied with conditions in Iraq. I feel that many of them are listening to their clerics and are no longer loyal to the US forces. To make matters worse a suicide truck bomb exploded on a major bridge over the Tigris River and two large sections in the middle of al-Sarafiya bridge collapsed into the river. Where was the security there?
As our troops move into Baghdad imbedded in Iraqi units, I worry about vipers in those units leaving our troops in greater danger. Our forces expanding with the so-called surge, are going to be exposed to a growing dissatisfaction with our presence in Iraq. Is Gates turning out to be another Rumsfeld? In my opinion, the President’s “men†are marching to his drum and the wishes of most American’s are totally disregarded.
