While we are spending billions to try to repair Iraqi infrastructure, our own is going south. Saddam left us a sinking ship when it comes to infrastructure. After years of neglect there seems to be no way that we will be able to get everything in working order again. How long are we going to pour billions into Iraq and let our own country be neglected? Something is just not right here. While our military struggles to help provide security for Iraq their government sits on their duffs and watches. Why aren’t their oil revenues going toward rebuilding. We didn’t do all the damage that we are discovering in Iraq. It seems to me that the Iraqi government has found a patsy to rebuild their country. Wake up Congress and address the many problems that we are now dealing with in Iraq as we head into our sixth year there. Congress has the authority to curb many of the presidential actions that Bush is now getting away with. I am thoroughly disgusted with both parties. Where is the country that I have been so patriotic about most of my life. The last five years have left me very disillusioned.

The current administration has lied to the American public from the very beginning and continues to do so with it’s glowing reports of the “surge” and declaring that we are safer now. Sorry but I just can’t swallow that kind of lying. Al-Qaeda will continue to grow as long as we remain in Iraq. I can see our need to stay in Afghanistan but for the sake of our military and the people of Iraq let’s go home. Our military seems to being close to the breaking point. Don’t let that happen!!!

Since the time of Dwight D. Eisenhower, who coined the term “military-industrial complex”, that industry has grown and grown and the part of our budget that funds it is obscene. It is so entrenched that there seems no way to tone it down. Too many people are getting a large slice of the pie and would fight tooth and nail if we tried to backtrack to a more normal industry. It involves so many supplemental industries that our economy would become worse than it already is. Where and how do we draw a line? Just thinking about it boggles my mind so I’m going to stop thinking about it for now.
