I hope all the members of the Senate and Congress who signed that dasdardly funding bill are proud of yourselves. In my opinion, you are not supporting the troups, but the insurgents. Between now and September we all will have to watch the escalating death toll. The morale of the National Guard members who are doing second and third tours of duty must be zip because there is no hope in that bill about coming home.

While I’m talking about dasdardly deeds, how about the use of cluster bombs by our air support, something we rarely hear about. More Iraqi civilians died because of their use than any other kind of weapon. What do we hear about the air war? Very little, because there is very little mainstream media coverage. Many nations are moving toward banning the use of cluster munitions. The US military has a huge arsenal of these weapons. These kind of bombs burst above the ground releasing hundreds of little bombs. This increases the kill range and has indiscriminate effects. In addition, the US cluster munitions have a high failure rate. Unexploaded bomblets can be found in fields and farms in Iraq which is a great hazzard to those who find them and pick them up. Reports show that this “secret air war, has taken a toll on Iraqi children, as about 50% of violent deaths of Iraqi children under 15 were due to air strikes. The army claims that it no longer uses them. Records show that they were used as late as January 2006. The press has failed the American public, as the military is unwilling to give out the information and it’s up to mainstream media to expose these things…Joan Lough.
