I just watched the President give his “I Will Veto†speech. All I heard were the fear tactics used to try to create guilt upon those who want the troops home. I for one, refuse to accept any guilt. The killing of our sons and daughters rages on. Two here, three there, daily, and the wounded, oh my God, the wounded. They are returned home missing arms, legs, eyes and brain injured. My thinking turns morbid. Would I, as a mother, want my child sent home in a box rather than with a severe brain injury that would allow me to care for the shell of my once vibrant child for the rest of their life? This is a choice that no parent should be forced to think about.
Those coming home are going from one battlefield to another. They now face the fight to try to return to semi-normal life and adjust to their disabilities. The ones who recover are often returned to the war zone.
I see the surge in Baghdad like someone squeezing a balloon as more acute conflicts pop up in areas away from the capital city. The President says, “give the surge a chanceâ€. Who is giving our brave troops a chance? Mr. President, it’s up to you to give them a chance, BRING THEM HOME!!!
As for me, I remain a very, very angry and outraged anti-war activist…Joan Lough
