In a straight party-line vote, 22-17, the House Judiciary Committee approved a contempt resolution against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers. Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office released a statement on the issue. Pelosi said that the House will not take up the resolution until September hoping that today’s vote will help the Administration see the light and release the information to Committee.
On Monday, the Justice Department sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee stating that it will not present the citations to the court even if the House votes for them. The Bush administration is still pulling the strings. I’m really surprised that politicians do not try to put and end to these tactics which are clearly unconstitutional. How far does the claimed executive privilege actually go?
