While the Department of Homeland Security is not raising the national color-coded threat warning level from yellow, or elevated, it is issuing a warning to it’s employees to be extra vigilant for the next year. This information came to light from a report leak to the media. So many events like The Olympics, both major parties’ nominating conventions, Election Day and the presidential transition provide venues for possible terrorist attacks. DHS agencies have been asked to review emergency response plans and intensify coordination and intelligence analysis. As civilians I guess that we too need to be vigilant and be ready to report suspicious activities. Better to be safe than sorry.

There hasn’t been any credible new threat information but it’s not a season to let down our guard. Let’s hope that the DHS is really on it’s toes. We all know what happened when our intelligence sources gave false information that led us into this mess in the first place. The administration’s paranoia about Iran could lead us into another confrontation if a tight rein isn’t kept on the loose cannons in the administration. Somehow the past actions of the current administration have made me very wary. We are fortunate that we have not been attacked here at home since 9/11 but the extremists that may reside in the US may well look for place to hit us again.
