George W Bush on his supposedly last official tour of Europe, advised that we shake the stick at Iran again with sanctions, during talks in Slovenia, if they don’t end their nuclear enrichment program. If such a plan doesn’t work, does he have time before he leaves office to try offensive action? Bush is great with his fear tactics but would Congress and the American people fall for them again? His plan includes “steps to ensure Iranian banks cannot… support proliferation and terrorism.” Fear once again raises it’s ugly head when Bush said “a nuclear-armed Iran would be incredibly dangerous to peace.” I see no mention of trying face-to-face interaction with Iranian leaders. Maybe someone less abrasive will be able to mend problems between the U.S. and Iran. Military action cannot be the answer to everything. I hope that I am not just being naive in hoping for diplomatic solutions.

Bush will later travel to Germany, Italy, France, the Vatican and the UK where he no doubt will continue his quest for sanctions against Iran. Three rounds of sanctions against Iran have been approved by the UN Security Council which include asset restrictions and travel bans on Iranian individuals and companies said to be involved in nuclear work and also ban “the sale to Iran of so-called dual-use items, which can have either a military or civilian purpose.”
