I don’t want to say “here we go again” but so much emphasis is being put on Iran being behind the spurt of roadside bombs and rocket attacks in Iraq that some hawks in congress are making President Bush’s labeling Iran, a member of the axis of evil, a possible target for attack. Will we allow more fear mongering and lies let us be drawn into another war? Haven’t we had enough of this “war on terror?”
Adm. William Fallon, commander of U.S. Central Command, who tried to prevent a wider war with Iran, retired early due to differences with the current administration’s policies. He paid the price for telling the truth to the commander in chief. Cheney doesn’t mind keeping the U.S. in the mess that we have created in Iraq. McCain seems to be marching in lock step with Cheney and believes that leaving Iraq is not an option. He’d keep us there for 100 years if he could. It seems that Gen. Petraeus would keep the 130,000 pre-surge U.S. troop-level in Iraq, till the end of the Bush presidency. We’ll have to see what his, soon to be released, report to Bush will say. I know he’ll say how great everything is going as gives the president the answers he wants. This is a guy who makes sure that he plays on the right side. Keeping so many troops in Iraq could leave the U.S. in jeopardy for any new crises that might occur in other places. It seems that Fallon butted heads with Petraeus and lost. Qf course Defense Secretary Robert Gates, another hawk, sided with Petraeus.
