Acute combat stress from years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan is the reason that the top general of the Army wants to reduce the length of combat tours as soon as possible but no mention was made of reduction in the “stop loss” policy which which forces some soldiers to stay on beyond their retirement or re-enlistment dates. Gen. George Casey wants to keep shorter tours even if Bush decides to suspend further troop reductions at the end of summer after he reduces the planned number of active-duty Army brigades in Iraq and Afghanistan to 15 units by July. Let’s hope that Bush actually does reduce the Army brigades.

Democrats will probably not be able to stop the $100 billion war spending bill as Bush would veto such a bill. Once again I call the Democrats spineless if they don’t continue to fight harder against war funding. I question the Republican’s stance that the war is showing so much progress when the Iraqi government still hasn’t reduced the Sunni, Shiite conflict. In my opinion, our economy is suffering from the huge amounts of money being used to fund a never ending war. We need to think more about the growing threats of al-Qaida around the world.
