Just what will a gas tax holiday buy us? A temporary fix at best, when we need to get at a long term fix if at all possible. Throw the problem at Congress to stop giving the big oil company breaks while the country suffers at the gas pumps. Bush is there to protect his friends in the oil business while the economy slowdown is causing hardships nationwide. The high price of gas has a ripple effect which is affecting businesses that depend on shipping or receiving merchandise and the cost is being passed on to consumers. How much saving is there in three month “holiday”? The gas taxes are mainly used for infrastructure and road repair. These taxes also put price pressure on manufacturers and consumers to choose more fuel-efficient products and processes. Unless we get at the root of the cause for such high prices, any number of gas holidays will not do anything for the current economy.
