What is our country coming to? Democrats and Republicians are fighting over how to apportion an astronomical defense budget. One trillion dollars, that’s right, one trillion. Why in God’s name do we need one trillion dollars a year to defend ourselves against small bands of al-Qaeda fanatics? Oh, there are gradiose plans for 28 pricey weapons systems, more money for a largely ineffictive Homeland Security, money for replenishing our military equipment and manpower, more money for returning veteran’s health care, something for which I would want more funds allocated. It goes on and on. Lead by fear, politicians on both sides of the aisle are going hog wild to “protect” America. Who pays? We do, and our children and their children for years to come, will pay for defense spending. Go figure!…Joan Lough
