Iraqi children are paying a terrible price for the war the Bush adminstration unleashed. Not only have many been horribly maimed but their health has been affected and their quality of life is zero. Many cannot attend school so their prospects for the future are poor. Also many have been forced to leave the country with their families. Basically they don’t have access to health care, education, shelter or water and sanitation. There is no treatment for those with severe psychological problems.

According to the Geneva Convention, the occupying powers are responsible for the medical needs of the population. Obviously this is not being done. How can men and women of conscience allow this to happen? Malnutrition is being seen everywhere. The lack of basic services is affecting the entire population. These problems may take years to correct. There are many cases of congenital malformations and cancer among children because of of exposure to chemicals and radioactive materials. Is this what the Bush administration and the military call “collateral damage”? If so, I don’t want any part of a country that allows this to happen.
