I guess that I’d better reconsider what I call casual comments. Yesterday when I made a comment about Gov. Palin’s unwed young daughter, I did it from the viewpoint of a mother and felt that perhaps Palin needed to spend more time with her daughters. I was rather shocked when the media jumped on information about her daughter and, in my opinion, blew it all out of proportion. I agree with Obama that the young children of political figures should be left out of frenzied reporting. As far as I’m concerned it’s down and dirty but often the press gets down and dirty.
Moving on to other topics, the US is handing Anbar Provence over to the Iraqis to protect. It has gone from the most lethal place in Iraq for American military to a relatively calm area. The trouble in Anbar could be traced to the decisions of mid-2003, when L. Paul Bremer III, the chief administrator of the occupation, dissolved the Iraqi Army. In my opinion he made a lot of stupid mistakes and showed just what an inept appointee could do. Seems to me that Bush sure had a lot of inept appointees in key positions and still does by my book. It sure is great for me to be able to voice my opinions here on this blog not get any contrasting opinions except from friends and family who know how to reach me. I do welcome comments but was inundated with spam and other kinds of junk and porn when my site was open for comments.
Moving right along, I have noted that bipartisan Congressional lawmakers and officials of some cities are calling for a new initiative to replace the outdated 1960’s measure of poverty in our country, which fails to fully reflect the resources available to Americans and the hardships that they are facing. This is another part of the change that the new president must address. Eligibility for many federal aid programs is linked to the federal poverty level. It seems that my “casual comments” are really more “this and that” and I’ll continue to ramble on until the Republican Convention runs it’s course and we get into the debates.
