It’s hard to believe that Bush really believes that the Iraqi government is going to be able to turn things around in Iraq. The final “surge” report from Gen. Petraeus is due in two months and the Iraqui government is taking a vacation for the month of August. Our troops are not getting that month off, as a matter of fact a bill to allow our military to have more time between deployments was voted down in Congress. If members on boths sides of the aisle wern’t so chickenhearted they would cut the war funding. I don’t believe that it would endanger our troops. We finally resorted to that, during the Viet Nam war. Our politicians are fearful that they would be blamed for whatever happens following the redeploying of our combat troops. Let’s make the Iraqis deal with their internal problems, if we bring most troops home and redeploy some troops to the areas around the boundries of Iraq. Without the US being close at hand to prop them up they would be forced to take action. I think that Bush needs a good clout to the head to wake him up.
Come to think of it, it would take more than a good clout to wake him up as he’s too deluded…Joan Lough
