Like rats leaving a sinking ship, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown plans to remove more troops by spring. Then a further decision about the next phase of removal will be made. This follows plans to cut its deployment by 1,000 by Christmas. After the spring deployment there will be 2,500 British military in Basra city. Why can’t the American leaders be that smart? There will be about 500 logistics and support personnel based outside Iraq. I’m for doing the same thing with American forces, in larger numbers of course.
The four southern provinces have around 20 percent of the Iraqi people but account for less than 5 percent of the overall violence in Iraq. It is uncertain what role the UK troops will play in Iraq. They will be available to train Iraqi forces. There has been much less violence since the troops left the city to be stationed at the airport. Prior to the move, 90% of the violence was aimed at them. I’m sure that same thing would happen if we moved our troops away from all the hot spots. Wise up Congress and push for tough decisions to bring our troops home. You control the pursestrings, no money, no war.
