Looks like Bush will end his presidency leaving interim heads running Federal agencies. This means that they do not have Senate’s right to review and approve the appointments. These jobs are filled by people who do not have the power that comes with a permanent appointment endorsed by the Senate. This is also happening in other places in the Bush administration. Who is making decisions for them? It looks like everything is being run by the very top. Vacancy rates for senior jobs is much higher in the Bush administration than previous administrations. This means that the Democrats have no say in the choice of people in these high places. We all know about the lame brains that Bush has placed in high places and so it continues.
Three members of the cabinet have interim heads and only one, the replacement for Gonzales, has a confirmation hearing scheduled on Wednesday. The other two cabinet jobs, agriculture secretary and veterans affairs secretary, have interim heads and no names have been offered for permanent heads. The large numbers of vacancies may be because there will be no job security at the top if a Democrat is the next president. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced in July that he would be stepping down and there also, no nominee has been offered. I guess that there is a lot of worry about a change of administration in “08.
