Only 15 months left of his presidency and Bush continues his poor record of “Temp” choices. These are positions that do not need approval from the Senate. Who has he placed in charge of family planning programs at the Department of Health and Human Services? None other than anti-birth control activist Susan Orr. What kind of choices are women going to get under her reign? This follows a pattern of control by the Bush Administration to make sure that things are done his way. We’ve already seen that his “abstinence programs” don’t work.
Orr believes that it’s not a medical necessity that you have birth control. Now she is in charge of how $283 million will be spent in providing contraceptive services and other types of care to predominately low-income women. Women, once again, seem to be relagated to the dark ages when it comes to reproductive issues.
