I’m outraged as President Bush continues to dupe the American public about the success of the surge. His “surprise” visit to the al-Asad air base was a visit to the safest air base in Iraq. My grandson, a Marine, served there in 2004 as a logistics specialist, mainly because it was a safe place to use for movement of troops and equipment via computer. I have a picture of him taken with Rumsfeld in October of 2004 during a media publicity shoot. Ever since, most of the holiday dinners with the troops and high mucky mucks were filmed there.
The surge is only working in areas with extra troops. Civilian deaths and troop deaths keep going up. We can’t abandon the Iraqi people and the devistation we brought upon their country but there must be a way we can do it with supplies and money for them to rebuild themselves and not have our military in a combat roll. If money is lost to fraud that is their problem. If the British can turn over their southern section of Iraq to Iraqi military and Shiite militants we should be able to do the same thing in other areas. The civil war is an Iraqi problem and it’s up to the Iraqi government to solve that problem. I’m also fed up with the media allowing itself to be used to feed the administrations propaganda.
