The US really dropped the ball when they invaded Iraq and it’s coming home to roost now. Not staying full force in Afghanistan and nailing the Taliban was a real tactical blunder. Several days ago Taliban forces attacked the prison in Kandahar and freed close to 900 prisoners 390 of which were Taliban. Now they have overrun villages close to Kandahar. Four US military were killed and a fourth badly wounded in Kanahar yesterday. The Bush administration has made one blunder after another and it seems like nothing is being done to rectify military errors. I’m disgusted with Congress continuing to be led by the nose by this administration.

The Arghandab district where Taliban forces have overrun villages, is north of Kandahar and a very difficult area to try to remove them. It is an area of orchards and it’s easy for the Taliban to hide and fight there. During the Russian war, the Russians didn’t try to occupy that area because when they fought there they suffered many casualties. Nato is sending extra troops there, responding to a potential threat. Britain is also sending 230 more troops to the area. Kandahar was the Taliban’s former stronghold.
