I’ve been so filled with anger because of the terrible toll that the so called “serge” has been taking, especially at Fort Lewis, WA, that I had to take a breather from blogging. My home in Seattle makes me feel much closer to the war in Iraq because of my proximity to Fort Lewis. The daily death toll breaks my heart. If I felt that this was a necessary war, I think that I would be more accepting of the toll of war, but to me this is not the case. The Iraqi government is not stepping up to the benchmarks set for them, but I see no consequences for them from the Bush administration.

The Middle East seems to be on fire. The Bush dreams for democracy in that part of the world seems to be failing before much stronger forces. Where are the politicians who can cut off the money for war and why aren’t they? Let’s get our troops home where they can get rebuilt and concentrate on only engaging in provoked wars. Let’s get our intelligence groups searching out terrorist cells that may already be in our country. Last but not least, let’s get our combat forces out of Iraq…Joan Lough
