39 American troops killed in one week. Top al-Qaeda leaders, alerted to the “surge” in Baquba, fled the area to leave lesser leaders to wreak their carnage against Americans. The top commanders in Iraq knew this would happen and yet they push on. Our brave soldiers and marines follow the orders given them. The same thing happened in Falluja. When are politicians on both sides of the aisle going to put a stop to the travesty of war in Iraq. We cannot be expected to “win” their civil war. Without political cooperation from the Iraqi government nothing will move forward and from the looks of things this isn’t going to happen. Congress and the Senate need to get off their duffs and move to end our combat involvement in Iraq…Joan Lough
