12 billion is a tough figure to wrap my mind around. Think what could be done with that amount here at home. You don’t have to be an Einstein to realize that the surge in not working, contrary to what Bush, Cheney and McCain are telling us. “Give it more time”, they say. Time for more money to be poured down the toilet of inefficiency, time for hundreds more young service personnel to be killed and who knows how many Iriqi civilians to be killed. If we make it to September for a report from Gen. Petraeus (there are calls in Congress for the interim July 15th report to be a turning point) Bush will stand firm and push forward, if Petraeus gives a glimmer of hope. Hope for what? We can’t win an Iraq civil war so I believe a strategic withdrawal is in order. I don’t fully trust Petraeus not to tell Bush what he want’s to hear. The word “losing” doesn’t seem to be part of a military vocabulary…Joan Lough
